Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

 4 large green tomatoes
 1 cup self-rising flour
 ½ cup cornmeal
 ¼ teaspoon black pepper
 1 teaspoon salt
 ½ inch of oil of your choice for frying.

Mix flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Dip ½ inch thick sliced tomatoes into the mixture. Be sure to coat them well. Let tomatoes rest while you heat the oil. Heat oil in the pan. I recommend cast iron. Once oil is hot, add a layer of tomatoes and deep-fry each side until they are golden brown. You can dip them in ranch dressing or hot sauce, but in my opinion, they need no company.
