Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe
There are many different recipes for Fried Green Tomatoes, but my favorite is the one Mama made. It’s simple but amazing. The challenge is finding someone who will give up their tomatoes before they ripen.
4 large green tomatoes
1 cup self-rising flour
½ cup cornmeal
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
½ inch of oil of your choice for frying.
Mix flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Dip ½ inch thick sliced tomatoes into the mixture. Be sure to coat them well. Let tomatoes rest while you heat the oil. Heat oil in the pan. I recommend cast iron. Once oil is hot, add a layer of tomatoes and deep-fry each side until they are golden brown. You can dip them in ranch dressing or hot sauce, but in my opinion, they need no company.
